The public is invited to enjoy a walk through the upper loop of the Hollister Preserve while Tim Ryan of LHC and mushroom expert Joe Lenoce of the Connecticut Valley Mycologist Society discuss the basic types of fungi and proper collection methods.

About the event

Tim and Joe will share their extensive knowledge of species of mushrooms and the important symbiotic relationship between mushrooms, the trees, and the forest floor. The preserve is a rich environment for mushroom growth.


Walkers should wear appropriate shoes and bring a basket or paper bag for collecting. Please meet at the Sherwood Drive entrance to the preserve.


Directions from Glastonbury Center: From Glastonbury center, drive south on Main Street, turn left on Overlook Road (eastward), continue to end at intersection with Sherwood Drive, turn left on Sherwood Drive, the walk will start at the preserve trail at the cul-de-sac at the end of Sherwood Drive. The hike is free and open to the public.
