About the event
The Land Heritage Coalition of Glastonbury, Inc. will host a presentation by Melissa
Ruszczyk of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) on Connecticut’s bobcats. The presentation will be on Wednesday November 19, 2025 at 7:00 pm at the Riverfront Community Center, 300 Welles Street, Glastonbury, CT.
Despite having almost been extirpated from Connecticut in the 1970s, the bobcat population of
Connecticut has recovered. Maybe you have had the thrilling experience of seeing a bobcat in
your yard as they move among us. According to the latest DEEP map, there have recently
been 65 bobcat sightings in Glastonbury.
This is a great opportunity to learn more bobcats from the crew field lead for DEEP’s
Connecticut Bobcat Project which was initiated in 2017. Ms. Ruszczyk is a Wildlife Biologist
with the Furbearer/Black Bear Program in the Wildlife Division at DEEP. The talk will include
the history of the bobcat in Connecticut, what they have learned about the biology of bobcats
and a discussion of the recent research.
This event will be presented free of charge and requires no registration. In-kind donations will be graciously accepted. LHC is a member-based, nonprofit organization focused on bringing people and nature together to inspire conservation.
